The UGC NET June 2026 exam is officially underway. NTA (National Testing Agency) started the exam on June 22, 2026, and it will go on until June 30, 2026. If you are appearing for the exam in the coming days, this post covers everything — shift timings, what documents to carry, reporting time, what not to bring, and a few things that can save you from last-minute trouble.
Let’s keep it simple.
UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a national-level exam conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) on behalf of UGC. The June 2026 session is one of the two cycles held every year — the other being the December cycle.
The UGC NET June 2026 exam determines eligibility for:
If you are planning to pursue a PhD and need guidance on research topics or thesis writing, Kenfra Research can help.
To be eligible for UGC NET June 2026, you need at least 55% marks in your Master’s degree (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD candidates).
The UGC NET June 2026 exam is being conducted from 22nd June to 30th June 2026 in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across various exam centres in India.
The exam covers 87 subjects in total. NTA has assigned each subject a specific date and shift. Once allotted, the date and shift cannot be changed. Candidates can check their subject-wise schedule on their UGC NET June 2026 admit card or on the official website — ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
The UGC NET June 2026 exam is conducted in two shifts every day. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are held together in one continuous session — there is no break in between.
The total duration of UGC NET June 2026 is 180 minutes (3 hours). You will not get any break between Paper 1 and Paper 2, so manage your time accordingly inside the hall.
This is one of the most common mistakes candidates make. The exam starts at 9 AM for Shift 1 — but you cannot walk in at 8:50 AM and expect to be allowed inside.
As per official NTA guidelines for UGC NET June 2026:
That is 90 minutes before the exam begins. The reason is simple — security checks, frisking, document verification, and biometric formalities take time when thousands of candidates are appearing at the same centre.
The exam centre gates are shut 30 minutes before the start of the exam. After that, no one is allowed in — not even if you were stuck in traffic.
Plan your travel in advance. Check the route to your exam centre the night before. If the centre is far, leave extra early.
NTA is very strict about document verification. Candidates without the correct documents will not be permitted to enter the examination hall. No exceptions.
PwD/PwBD candidates: Also carry your valid disability certificate issued by the Competent Authority to get the relaxation benefits you are entitled to.
Before leaving for the centre, cross-check your UGC NET June 2026 admit card for your name, exam date, shift timing, and centre address. If there is any mismatch, contact NTA helpdesk right away.
NTA has a strict list of prohibited items. Getting caught with any of these can lead to cancellation of your candidature and further disciplinary action.
Do not bring:
Keep it simple. Admit card, photo ID, photograph — and that is it. Leave your phone at home or in your vehicle.
The UGC NET June 2026 exam has two papers, both held in a single 3-hour session.
Total: 150 questions | 300 marks
One thing that works in your favour in UGC NET June 2026 — there is no negative marking. Wrong answers do not cost you marks. So there is no reason to leave any question unanswered. If you are unsure, eliminate the clearly wrong options and go with your best guess.
